Today is pretty cold and windy. Because of the rain last night, the ground is still wet.
We had some documents to read, so we spent the whole morning in the main lodge to study.
The true adventure began after lunch. Mingzhi, our TA, brought us to a place called Cataraqui trail for hiking. The entrance is just across the Skycroft.
It was awesome! We found a lot of fungi and some birds. The beaver dams are so cool. It is said that those little creatures have alter the whole terrain of the North America. They must be the engineers sent by god to teach human how to build a dam! A typical beaver dam is like a swamp or a marsh with some dead trees. Their houses have two storey, the upper one is for the parents and the lower one is for the kids. Adorable!
We spent about 4 hours to finish the trip, the route, as I record, is 1, 2, 11, 10, 9, 38, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 32, 31, 30, 29, 28, 1. By the time we arrived at the main lodge, most of us are exhausted.
In the evening, we had two students to give seminar at 7 o’clock. One is about hot spot and the other is about the umbrella species.
Then professor Louheed gave us a lecture about amphibians at 8 o’clock. We learned a lot about caecilians, salamanders, frogs and toads.
Anyway, it was quite a busy day.
